La Leche League
The mission of La Leche League International is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information, and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.

Nursing Mothers Counsel
NMC is a local non-profit organization that provides free breastfeeding support, literature and counseling in English and Spanish. Their trained counselors are moms who have breastfed their babies for at least six months. Free breastfeeding education talks are held regularly. They have 24-hour referral hotline numbers for the counties of Santa Clara, San Mateo , and Santa Cruz , as well as a nationwide referral number.

Mothers’ Milk Bank
Mothers’ Milk Bank collects donated breastmilk for premature and sick babies. They are located in Santa Clara County and are one of only a few milk banks in the country. Alameda County

Mommy and Me Support Group
A FREE support group for new mothers and their babies covering such topics as breastfeeding, crying, sleeping, and any other parenting concerns. Facilitated by Lactation Consultant, Sylvia Boyd (see below). Meets one or two mornings a month at the St. Joseph Pavilion classrooms of St. Rose Hospital in Hayward. San Francisco County

DayOne Center
DayOne's highly-trained and well-respected Certified Lactation Consultants provide the expert help you need to make breastfeeding a positive experience for you and your new baby. Telephone and in-person lactation consultations, often available same-day to support you in overcoming breastfeeding challenges. Quarterly workshops. Personal assistance with the rental or purchase of breast pumps by Medela, Avent, and Whittlestone. Personal assistance with the purchase of nursing supplies and clothing, as well as custom-fitting of San Francisco's largest selection of nursing bras. Specially formulated herbal supplements designed for increasing milk supply.

Great Expectations offers a free breastfeeding support group at the UCSF Women's Health Resource Center (part of the UCSF Medical Center). Bring your baby and meet with other mothers to discuss breastfeeding and parenting issues in a warm, supportive atmosphere. Topics include thriving as a breastfeeding family, the fussy baby, breastfeeding in public, working and breastfeeding, and much more.

Newborn Connections, part of the California Pacific Medical Center
Newborn Connections' lactation consultants are specially trained experts – many of whom have board certification in lactation consultation. They are available to meet with parents regarding breastfeeding problems or concerns. They also offer classes for breastfeeding mothers.

San Mateo County

The Lactation Education Center at Sequoia Hospital offers many services including a “Calm Line” (650) 367-5597, where Lactation educators are available by phone daily to assist with breastfeeding questions. This is free to the community. Other services offered (for a fee) include: a Preparation for Breastfeeding Class, breast pump rental (including personalized instruction and support in use of equipment), and other breastfeeding supplies.

Santa Clara County

Janet Fishstrom Dombro, IBCLC
Janet has enjoyed helping moms and babies breastfeed since 1988, originally through La Leche League and now as a private practice lactation consultant in the Santa Clara Valley. Maternal Connections® Lactation Center at El Camino Hospital
Breastfeeding can often make a difference in the health and welfare of mothers and babies. Their lactation support services offer you and your baby many levels of assistance. The registered nurses in the lactation support services department are Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) and are available to help you.

New Mom's Support Group at O’Conner Hospital
This open forum drop-in support group will give you hands-on help and will answer any questions you have about breastfeeding and newborn care. It has been developed to promote and extend the excellence in care that O'Connor provides for new mothers and their babies. Note: On their webpage, first select “Health Classes & Support Groups”, then select “New Mom’s Support Group”.

Parenting and Breastfeeding Services
Breastfeeding specialists are available by phone to answer brief questions and evaluate the need for a more comprehensive consultation. This service is provided free of charge. They also facilitate free weekly breastfeeding support groups at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose and at the Community Hospital of Los Gatos where a group of breastfeeding mothers and their babies, birth to three months, meet with a lactation consultant for problem solving, questions, and support. You can also take part in Breastfeeding Classes and Personal Consultations (for a fee). A personal consultation includes a review of your breastfeeding history, discussion of your concerns, a physical assessment for breastfeeding, including baby's weight, and observation of a breastfeeding session with assistance from one of their lactation consultants.
